L.A's hot right now with a new generation of producers, making post hip hop beats inspired by L.A.'s mix of sunshine and street life. This compilation features 17 new artists, experimenting within these forms, taking bits from L.A.'s psychedelic rock history, it's hip hop and jazz heritage, as well as R and B, exotic middle eastern music, electronica and Dilla style wonky beats creating a really buzzing eclectic stew of interesting ideas and good music. There are people on here you might know, Flying Lotus is on here, Nobody, Georgina Anne Muldrow, Yesterday's New Quintet, Carlos Nino as well as people like Adventure Time, A Race Of Angels, Gonja Sufi and the Gaslamp killer, Exile, Nathan Yell and others. Basically a who's who of this new generation. The music is a mixed bag, all good quality but eclectic enough to occasionally annoy on some aesthetic levels. There is a very nice full colour booklet in the cd which also tags each performer on the cd with a new artist as well. Good stuff definitely worth exploring.
