An England Story - from Dancehall To Grime 25 Years of the MC in the UK (Soul Jazz Records)
Dub / Reggae Grime Hip Hop Vintage / Reissues
Nice one to Soul Jazz for allowing one of London's most forward thinking reggae systems Heatwave to compile this awesome history of the British MC in British Dance music.
The album has a particular idea going through it, that the influence of dancehall and reggae is integral to the uk urban or dance music's development, also the unique double-flow speed M.C. lyricism that is a unique style to Britain is also on full display.
The album is basically British dance music viewed through the lens of these two elements, the ganja vibes of reggae and dancehall remixed throughout 25 years intro hardcore, drum and bass, uk hip hop, garage, dubstep and grime, which is a good way of looking at elements of it, the looking into the future with elements of the past, but with an ever present mc. It features tracks from Papa Levi, Riko, Top Cat, Warrior Queen, General Levy, Stush, Tippa Irie, London Posse, Jah Skreechy, Tubby T and others.
It's a two cd pack with extensive sleeve notes, interviews with the protagonists and background, uncovering a largely untold story. The Vinyl is over two volumes, four slabs of finely presented vinyl.
