At last the long awaited debut release from Glasgow's Stuff records crew....Responsible for some of the best parties north of the border, they have amassed the cream of new glasgow producers and past guests, pumped them full of Buckfast, and crammed them into the studio for this excellent 12" only compilation. "Portland" by Sparky is an electro classic in the making: epic, retro/futurist and from a place somewhere between New order, Carl Finlow and Drexciya. DJ Shabushabu's "Afraemon" kicks off with a cheeky melody from an old Sting song (hmmm, maybe shouldnt have admitted to spotting that one...) then brings a tight hip hop beat in underneath (turntablists take note: definitely a good one for a 2 copy cutup routine), and tops it off with a bizarre freestyle in japanese towards the end.....The Truffle Club's "Perculatin'" couples Mary J Bilge with a slinky electro-ed up beat in fine style: impeccably produced and 7 steps above the usual mass of slightly-off-key-and-out-of-sync bootlegs, this one sounds wicked and will kick thru a nice system. All in all - six tracks of Scottish electro goodness for £4.99 Buy buy buy....!
