This came in a bit late but honestly it's too good to not make album of the week.
Robert Hood, minimal techno originator, creator of jacking, assembly line funk and Lando Calrissian from Star Wars lookalike takes us through 32 tracks over this mix from Fabric, of all places.
Nowdays, the word minimal inspires visions of hedonistic, bohemian wasted German youth listening to subtle, bubbling prog-rock length tracks, but Hood's minimal music pairs down funk into raw elements; kick drums, off beat colour, rolling abstraction, which on this set he tweaks, mixes and manipulates in a raw, hands-on fashion at a fast pace, making your nerves twitch as the tracks quickly move from one to another.
It's quite an amazing mix and he's quite a dj as anyone who saw him perform after Autechre a couple of years ago in London will attest.
