The new collection of material features 10 tracks of new, reworked & re-recorded songs, covers, and collaborations that encapsulate the beautiful Grizzly Bear sound. Friend is a testament to what Grizzly Bear has become in its 3 year history; a well loved, sonically adventurous and adaptable pop band, vintage, baroque arrangements with honey-sweet, four part harmonies, and a distinctly spacious dusty atmosphere, this release builds on the last album 'Yellow House' encapsulating the space between then and now in a tidy selection of songs. 'Yellow House' is the source of some of the covers on Friend. 'Alligator' and 'Shift' come from the band's first release, Horn of Plenty. 'Knife', get "dance party" and ambient treatments from CSS and 'Atlas Sound' (Bradford Cox of Deerhunter) respectively. 'Plans' gets chopped up by Grizzly's Chris Taylor and is remade as a "Deliverance" banjo anthem by the group 'Band of Horses'.

The live version of fan favorite 'Little Brother' gets laid to tape, and captures the energy of the live show almost perfectly.

"Alligator" gets lengthened into an epic 6-minute song with choir, culminating into a Douglas Sirk-like momentary climax, featuring guest performances by Dirty Projectors and Zach Condon of Beirut.

Grizzly Bear also tackle a cover of the Crystals song 'He Hit Me' to haunting effect and the traditional song "Deep Blue Sea", is performed by Grizzly's Daniel Rossen. A previously released Japanese bonus track "Granny Diner" is also included just for luck.
