Eccentric techno and electronic disco are the themes for this 2x12" single from Four Tet. Dazzling with colourful, organic melodies, complex percussive nuances and gentle, hollow kick drums, this EP is quite a change of pace and from Kieran Hebden's previous work...

In parts, 'Ringer' retains a certain ethereal playfulness that you may have heard in 'Everything Ecstatic', but it also carries enough weight to firm itself in a club situation. Sweeps of spacey effects and slinky, 'arpeggiated' sequences reflect Kieran's interest in the modern disco sound. However, you're not about to hear Moroder or Lindstrom - after the opening title track, Hebden launches another curveball with the galloping Detroit-style techno of 'Ribbons'. Again, the narrative is dramatically changed as the EP closes with the melancholic 4x4 of 'Swimmer' and the slightly 'Villalobosian' funk of 'Wing Body Wing'.
