This amazing double DVD features the works of the poetic pioneer of science film: Jean Painleve.

This compilation of his ground breaking and absolutely beautiful films made him a contemporary amongst the French surrealists of the day such as Bunuel, Jean Vigo and Eisenstien, plus his films were often scored by contemporary composers such as Pierre Henry and Francois Roubaix, as well as Chopin and Duke Ellington.

Shot in colour and black and white they're outstanding things to watch and very inventive, with a hint of magic realism, the underwater ones are perhaps the most enchanting. The second dvd contains the films scored by the American Group Yo La Tengo.
