    Essential compilation of rough recordings from Mali, on this sublabel of Drag City, set up to air some of the amazing street performances heard around Mali, the real deal Malian music that people who live there listen to, not the exported music that westerners tend to know. The recordings are live, real live recordings of parties, roughshod, full of energetic detail, a snapshot of a good party. The music is raw and fantastic stuff that along with the Sublime Frequencies label is the panacea to the stale image and choices of 'World Music' where too often developing world music is cleaned up and made dull and lifeless in some Western recording studio or given a relaxing ambient treatment by some would-be sympathetic soundscaper. Still, would have been nice to have some details about the musicians.
