The new album from Sheffield's 65 Days Of Static, tour mates with Chris Clark and all-round fusioneers of electronica, heavyweight doom metal and Godspeed You Black Emperor style postrock. They return with an altered sound - everything is more stripped down, the instruments have more room to breathe and moods vary throughout. The band seem to have relaxed a bit and bring in some fresher ideas, dropping some of the drum and bass inspired programming and replacing it with something that's a bit more emotionally complex rather than just technically complex. The music sounds all the better for it, sterner and less melodramatic, but simmering with the same anger that makes the band exciting.
